This is a very nice dinosaur egg. It is a large Saltasaurus egg from Patagonia, Argentina. This type of dinosaur was a sauropod, a small armor-plated titanosaurid. The egg is large - over seven inches across. The bottom of the egg is missing where it was excavated out of the ground. But the rest of the egg has almost all of the eggshell still preserved. The eggshell retains the detailed, reticulated surface texture that it did when it was laid millions of years ago (see close-up photo). The egg still has its egg-shape - it is very inflated and is not crushed flat. Argentina has recently tightened restrictions regarding the export of dinosaur fossils, so eggs like this will become even harder to acquire. This is a fine example of an egg from the classic South American dinosaur, Saltasaurus.
