Here is an extremely rare fossil insect. This is a very nice wasp (Hymenoptera) from the Eocene of Utah. This insect is quite large and exhibits fine detail. The head, body, and legs of the wasp are beautifully preserved. The huge wasp has great color and contrast and is well centered on the squared plate of shale that also contains two fossil plants. This is a wonderful specimen of an unusual fossil wasp from the Green River Formation.
