Beautiful, Star-Shaped Orophocrinus Blastoid
Stock Number  XIBL706
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Orophocrinus stelliformis
Age:  Mississippian
Formation:  Burlington Formation
Location:  Ralls County, Missouri
Size:  Blastoid is 1.15 inches across!

This is a very interesting blastoid specimen from the Mississippian of Missouri. In the center of the plate is a very large example of Orophocrinus stelliformis. This beautiful, star-shaped blastoid is highly prized by the local collectors - it is a lucky day for the collector when one of these blastoids is found. The distinct echinoderm is very robust and exhibits very good plate structure. The off-white fossil contrasts beautifully with the orangish-brown matrix. The fossil is very well showcased on the large plate of limestone that contains many small crinoid parts. This is a very large, detailed specimen of this unique blastoid from the Lower Burlington Formation.
