This is a very interesting fossil. This is a colorful sponge (Vauxia?) from the Lower Cambrian of Nevada. This fossil was found in a single layer and nowhere else in the formation, as far as we know. This distinct specimen is nicely preserved and exhibits fine detail. The conical shape of the organism is beautifully displayed, and the textured pattern is quite evident. The fossil has great color and contrast and is well presented on the natural plate of shale. This is a very rare and collectible fossil of this delicate animal.
