Name:
Prenaster alpinus

Formation: Aspe - Alicante
Location: Spain
Size: Fossil is 1 inch long
This is a very uncommon specimen of Prenaster alpinus from the Eocene of Spain. This distinct sea urchin displays beautifully from all sides - it has been prepared free of matrix. The fossil is quite robust and exhibits extremely fine detail. The entire test is covered with very small pustules, and the thin ambulacra are very easily seen. This is an excellent example of this rare echinoid from Europe.
