Name:
Flexoptychites flexuosus Age: Triassic Formation: Hallstatt Limestone Location: Epidauros, Greece Size: Ammonite is 7 inches across!
Here is a beautiful ammonite from an unusual location. This is Flexoptychites flexuosus from the Triassic of Greece. Triassic cephalopods are not common in the fossil record - there are only a few places in the world where they are found. This ammonite has been expertly polished on one side to reveal the striking color and wonderful feather-like suture pattern. Polished specimens are prized - most ammonites from this locality do not take a polish. This HUGE specimen (seven inches across!) is quite 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. This is a very large and displayable specimen of a Triassic ammonite from Greece.
