This is a rare ammonite specimen from an interesting location. It is an Unidentified Ammonite from the Cretaceous of Peru. The fossil is well preserved - the 3-dimensional cephalopod exhibits extremely fine ribbing and a sharp keel. The thick whorls of the ammonite are displayed on both sides of the specimen. The natural black coloration is quite unique. This is a very well preserved example of this extremely unusual ammonite from South America.
