RARE Australian Stromatolite - Yelma digitata
Stock Number  XISTR151

Name:   Yelma digitata
Age:  Precambrian
Formation:  Yelma Formation, Earaheedy Group
Location:  Nabberu Basin, Wiluna, Western Australia
Size:  Slab is 7.7 inches long

This is a very interesting stromatolite slab from the Precambrian of Australia. It is a striking plate of Yelma digitata. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. It is believed that this stromatolite is 1.7 billion years old! This striking slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The unique depositional pattern of the stromatolite is beautifully showcased, and the different shades of the mineral replacement are quite noticeable. This is an excellent example of this very uncommon stromatolite from Down Under.
