EXTINCTIONS CHOICE - Baicalia capricornia
Stock Number  XISTR133
EXTINCTIONS Choice

Name:   Baicalia capricornia
Age:  Precambrian
Formation:  Irregully Formation
Location:  Kooline Station, Australia
Size:  Slab is 6.5 inches tall

Here is a beautiful specimen of a stromatolite. This is Baicalia capricornia from the Precambrian of Australia. This stromatolite is reported to be 1.2 billion years old! Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This distinct plate of stromatolite has been highly polished on one side for optimal display, and the layered depositional pattern is wonderfully showcased. The creamish-pinkish-maroon coloration of the mineral replacement is quite striking. This is a gorgeous stromatolite from the Bangemall Basin of Australia.
