This is a very large example of a colorful Collenia stromatolite from the Precambrian of Wisconsin. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This stromatolite specimen is believed to be 2.2 billion years old! This large slab has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The unique greenish-yellow coloration of this stromatolite makes for a striking specimen. This is a beautiful slice of an extremely old piece of the Earth's history.
