Beautiful Precambrian Stromatolite from Bolivia
Stock Number  XISTR119

Name:   Conophyton sp.
Age:  Precambrian
Formation:  Stromatolite Beds
Location:  Cochabamba, Bolivia
Size:  Slab is 6 inches tall

This is an excellent specimen of a stromatolite. This is Conophyton sp. from the Precambrian of Bolivia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. It is believed that this stromatolite is 2.2 to 2.4 billion years old! The thick slice of stromatolite has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The layered depositional pattern of this stromatolite is beautifully preserved. The different colors and unique pattern make for a striking exhibit. This is a wonderful example of a Conophyton stromatolite from an unusual location.
