Here is a very uncommon fossil. This is a Macropenaeus shrimp and fish plate from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This genus of shrimp should not be confused with the more common Carpopenaeus callirostris. The shrimp is complete and exhibits great detail. The tail, segmented carapace, and long legs are clearly defined. The long, slender antennae are nicely displayed. The fish also has very fine detail preserved, and the backbone is very easily seen. The beautiful color of the fossils contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The specimens are well presented on the rectangular plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a large, beautiful specimen of an unusual fossil shrimp and fish from Lebanon.
