Very Detailed Fossil Shrimp from Lebanon
Stock Number  F824043

Name:   Carpopenaeus callirostris
Age:  Middle Cretaceous
Formation:  Cenomanian Layers
Location:  Hajoula, Lebanon
Size:  Plate is 2.2" X 3.1"

This is a very attractive specimen of a fossil shrimp. This is Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are difficult to obtain. This shrimp is well preserved and exhibits fine detail - the head, segmented body, and tail of the shrimp are clearly defined. Even the long legs, pointed rostrum, and eye are quite evident (some darkening for contrast). The fossil is wonderfully showcased and beautifully centered on the rectangular block of sublithographic limestone. This is a very fine example of a Carpopenaeus shrimp from the Middle East.
