Very Nice Fossil Shrimp from Lebanon
Stock Number  XISHL27

Name:   Carpopenaeus callirostris
Age:  Middle Cretaceous
Formation:  Cenomanian Layers
Location:  Hajoula, Lebanon
Size:  Plate is 2.4'' X 3.0''

This is a very striking specimen of a fossil shrimp. This is Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. This shrimp is nicely preserved and exhibits fine detail. The head, segmented body, and tail of the shrimp is clearly defined - even the long legs and antennae are quite evident. The fossil has been darkened for contrast (typical of this site) and is beautifully centered on the rectangular plate of sublithographic limestone. This is a very attractive fossil shrimp from the Cretaceous.
