Triple Shrimp Platter From The Cretaceous
Stock Number  XISHL21

Name:   Carpopenaeus callirostris
Age:  Middle Cretaceous
Formation:  Cenomanian Layers
Location:  Hajoula, Lebanon
Size:  Plate is 4.6'' X 6.4''

Here is an excellent plate of fossil shrimp. These are Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this location are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. There are three shrimp wonderfully displayed on this plate of sublithographic limestone. It is quite unusual to find this many shrimp preserved this closely together. Although the shrimp have been darkened for contrast (typical of this site), they exhibit fine detail. The segmented carapaces, legs, and long antennae are easily seen. The fossils are beautifully presented on the somewhat oval plate of limestone. This is a very striking slab of fossil shrimp from the Cretaceous.
