Here is an outstanding specimen of a Paleozoic shrimp. This is Acanthotelson sp. from the Pennsylvanian of Missouri. This shrimp is exquisitely preserved in a concretion. Both halves of the concretion are present, so both part and counterpart of the fossil are intact. This somewhat inflated shrimp is very large and exhibits wonderful detail. The head and segmented carapace are easily seen. Many of the legs are clearly defined, and the long, forked tail is quite distinct. The fossil has great, natural color and contrast and is almost perfectly centered in the concretion. This is a spectacular example of this rare fossil shrimp from the Coal Age of Missouri.
