Here is an excellent specimen of Acer lesquereuxi, a fossil maple. This specimen is from the Green River Formation of Utah. Maple leaves are very uncommon from this location. This leaf displays beautifully - all five lobes of the leaf are present and the venation of the leaf is easily seen. The leaf still has the long petiole attached. The fossil has very nice color and contrast and is well centered on the natural plate of matrix. This is a very aesthetic specimen of an unusual maple leaf from the Eocene.
