Here is an excellent specimen of an uncommon leaf from the Eocene of Utah. At first glance, this almost appears to be a Populus leaf. However, it is actually a wonderful specimen of the rare Aleurites glandulosa. This leaf is complete and exhibits fine detail. The undulating margins are complete and even the tiny tip of the leaf is intact. The venation is clearly defined - the looping secondary veins are very evident. A long petiole is still attached to the leaf. This fossil leaf has outstanding color and contrast. It is well centered on the large, natural plate of shale. This is a very displayable example of Aleurites from the Green River Formation.
