Here is a very attractive fossil leaf. This is Populus wilmattae from the Eocene of Utah. This fossil poplar leaf exhibits wonderful detail. The venation of the leaf is just outstanding. The crenate margins are easily seen and the long attenuate tip is intact. A very lengthy, complete petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The leaf has excellent color and contrast and is well centered on the semi-rectangular plate of matrix. This is a very pretty poplar leaf from the Green River Shale.
