This is an extremely displayable AND collectible fossil ammonite. It is a very large Harpoceras ammonite from Holzmaden, Germany. This specimen was recently acquired from an old world collection. This beautiful ammonite has very fine detail preserved - the coiling pattern is easily seen, and the suture "ribs" are quite distinct. The colorful cephalopod is wonderfully showcased on the squared plate of jet black shale. This is a fabulous example of this classic extinct ammonite from Germany.
