Here is a cool plate of unusual Cambrian fossils. This is a rare multiple slab of Chancelloria pentacta from the Wheeler Formation of Utah. This type of animal is sort of an enigma, and has been found in the Burgess Shale fauna. It was first thought to be a ''glass sponge'', but has now been described as a ''coeloscleritophoran''. There are two distinct examples of this strange fossil on the plate. Both fossils have good form and exhibit fine detail - the star-shaped sclerites are evident. The reddish-orange color contrasts well with the grey matrix plate. And there are even a couple of Agnostid trilobites preserved on the back side of the plate! This is an uncommon double specimen of this puzzling Middle Cambrian animal.
