This is a fabulous fossil insect. It is a complete Winged Cockroach from the famous Santana Formation of Brazil. This amazing insect lived during the Cretaceous Period, at the same time as the Dinosaurs! This insect has beautiful natural coloration and is extremely detailed - you can even see both antennae! The most striking feature of this fossil is the incredibly fine detail that is still preserved in the wings! (hard to see in the photo) It is very rare in the fossil record to find a complete fossil Cockroach with the wing pattern and antennae preserved. This is an excellent example of this classic Cretaceous insect.
