This is a very interesting fossil. This is a very nice sponge (Vauxia?) from the Lower Cambrian of Nevada. This fossil and others were found in a single layer and possibly nowhere else in the formation, as far as we know. This distinct specimen is well preserved and exhibits fine detail, especially under magnification. The tubular shape of the organism is beautifully displayed, the textured pattern is quite evident, and the small holdfast at the bottom is easily seen. The fossil has very nice color and contrast and is well showcased on the squared plate of shale. This is a very rare and collectible fossil of this delicate animal.
