This is a wonderful primitive echinoderm. It is an extremely rare Glyptocystella sp. from the Ordovician of Canada. This cystoid has a large ovate theca with plates ornamented with irregular radiating ridges. The plates of the theca are beautifully displayed, and several of the large pore-rhombs are clearly defined. A long portion of the stem is also tightly attached to the theca. The inflated cystoid is fully free of matrix, which is also very rare. This is a very uncommon intact specimen of this highly collectible cystoid.
