Here is a very distinct specimen of Archimedes sp. from Missouri. This unusual, corkscrew-shaped bryozoan is only found the Mississippian of North America. This bryozoan colony attached itself to the ocean floor with the spiraling fronds in an upward position. The fossil is very 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The natural color of the fossil contrasts wonderfully with the grey matrix plate. And the tooth displays beautifully in a glass-topped display case. This is a fine example of this strange-looking bryozoan.
