This is a very distinct cystoid. It is a detailed example of Caryocrinites ornatus from the Rochester Shale of New York. This specimen is from the Eugene Thomas Collection. This type of primitive echinoderm has a round to calyx comprised of large, highly ornamented plates - the plate structure of this specimen is easily seen. Many LONG arms are even preserved (RARE). The fossil has very good color and contrast and is well showcased on the large plate of shale. This is a very nice specimen of Caryocrinites from the Silurian of New York.
