This is an excellent example of an unusual trilobite. This is a large Subasaphus platyurus from the Ordovician of Russia. This specimen was acquired from the Richard Busch Collection, who originally acquired it from the Chance Collection. Busch was the Preparator/Asst. Curator at the North Museum in Lancaster, PA from 1965-1992. This type differs from the more common Russian Asaphids in that this type has genal spines. This trilobite is extremely 3-dimensional and wonderfully articulated. The bug is quite inflated and exhibits very fine detail. The genal spines have been prepared free-standing, and the large eyes are easily seen. The thick-shelled exoskeleton has great natural color - it is a dark caramel with natural reddish-brown highlights. The trilobite is well displayed on the buff-colored block of sculpted limestone. This is a highly collectible Russian trilobite that was once a part of both the Chance and the Busch Collections.
