This is a very rare echinoderm fossil. It is a pair of Camptostroma roddyi from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Camptostroma are one of the earliest known types of echinoderms - you may never see another Lower Cambrian echinoderm. These enigmatic, disc-shaped, Medusa-like animals had a distinct plate structure and an unusual red-brown coloration. This plate has a pair of them preserved - the larger one is somewhat disarticulated, but the smaller one retains its oval shape pretty well. The fossils contrast well with the lighter-colored matrix. The distinct plate structures are easily seen under magnification. This is a nice double example of this classic Lower Cambrian echinoderm.
