This is a very nice slab of trace fossils. These are fossil bird tracks from the Eocene of Utah. It is very easy to picture a bird walking along the shoreline of an ancient lake, with the track-filled mud from the shoreline eventually turning to stone. There are five distinct tracks in this trackway - these tracks were probably made by a sandpiper-type bird. The tracks are clearly defined and well positioned on the large,semi-squared plate of shale. This is a very fine specimen of a rare trackway of fossil bird tracks from the Green River Formation.
