This is a very rare fossil. It is an enigmatic Camptostroma roddyi from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Camptostroma are one of the earliest known types of echinoderms. Found in the Lower Cambrian, these rare, Medusa-like animals had a distinct plate structure and an unusual orange-brown coloration. This fossil has good detail and contrasts well with the lighter-colored matrix. The plate structure is easily seen under magnification. And this is a split pair fossil - both halves are included here. This is a very affordable pos/neg example of this unusual Lower Cambrian echinoderm.
