This is an excellent plate of two different fossil fish from the Eocene of Wyoming. Both fish are complete and exhibit excellent form and wonderful detail. On the left side of the slab is a striking specimen of Amphiplaga bracyptera. This highly uncommon fish has the bone structure and fins beautifully displayed. A fine example of Knightia humilis, a fossil herring, is on the right side of the slab. This fish shows the eye socket very clearly, and even the scale pattern of the fish can be seen. The dark brown fish contrast nicely with the cream-colored matrix. They are extremely well positioned on the rectangular plate of shale. This is a very displayable slab of two types of fish from the Green River Formation.
