This is an extremely rare fossil. It is an Unidentified Insect from the Eocene of Colorado. Insects like these are extremely rare in the fossil record. This specimen has the head, body, antennae, and long legs intact and easily seen. The fossil displays beautifully on the natural, unbroken plate of shale. A distinct insect preserved on shale is very rare, but one like this from the Green River Formation of Colorado is almost unheard of.
