Here is a very unusual fossil. This is a fine fossil feather from the Eocene of Colorado. Bird remains are quite rare in the fossil record - even individual feathers are highly uncommon. This fossil feather is very well preserved - under magnification, the detail is outstanding. The fossil has excellent color and contrast and is nicely presented on the natural plate of shale. This is a very distinct fossil feather from the Green River Formation.
