This is a very nice specimen of a fossil shrimp. This is Carpopenaeus callirostris from the Cretaceous of Lebanon. Due to political unrest, specimens from this site are difficult to obtain. This shrimp is well preserved and exhibits fine detail - the head, segmented body, and tail of the shrimp are clearly defined. Even the long, pointed rostrum and antennae are quite evident. The fossil is wonderfully showcased and beautifully displayed on the semi-squared block of sublithographic limestone. This is a very fine example of a Carpopenaeus shrimp from the Middle East.
