Here is a beautiful fossil leaf from an unusual location. We recently acquired this leaf from an old collection. Years ago, these leaves were found in the Eocene clay deposits of a brickyard in Tennessee. We haven't seen any "new" material from this site in a long time. This large leaf exhibits excellent detail. The entire margins are wonderfully displayed and the primary and secondary venation is easily seen. The fossil has outstanding, natural color. The dark brown leaf contrasts nicely with the pinkish-tan matrix. It is well positioned on the somewhat rectangular plate. This is an outstanding example of a fossil leaf from this "old" location.
