Here is a fabulous whale fossil. This is a large tooth from an extinct Sperm Whale, Scaldicetus. This tooth was found in the Miocene Deposits of the Atacama Desert of Chile. The fossil has been completely removed from the surrounding matrix, and it is fully natural! This colorful tooth is extremely 3-dimensionally preserved and still has the massive root attached. The corrugated enamel of the tooth tip is quite evident. This is an extremely impressive tooth from this interesting ancient animal.
