This is a great example of a fossil coral. It is a very pretty specimen of Billingastrea ingens from the Devonian of Kentucky. The fossil has been extracted from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from both sides. This colonial coral is quite 3-dimensional and shows excellent detail. The individual corallites are beautifully exhibited. The orangish-brown color of the fossil makes for a striking display. This is a very fine example of a detailed fossil coral.
