Here is a very distinct specimen of Archimedes wortheni from Missouri. This unusual, corkscrew-shaped bryozoan is only found the Mississippian of North America! This bryozoan colony attached itself to the ocean floor with the spiraling fronds in an upward position. The large fossil is very 3-dimensional and exhibits fine detail. The natural color of the fossil contrasts wonderfully with the grey matrix plate. This is a fine example of this strange-looking bryozoan.
