Here is a rare Eocene leaf. This is Oreopanax elongatum from the Green River Formation of Utah. This leaf is very long (almost 5 inches) and quite narrow. It displays smooth, entire margins and the tip of the leaf comes to a fine point. The primary venation is extremely strong and the secondary and tertiary venation is very weak. A portion of the stout petiole is still intact. The brown leaf contrasts nicely with the khaki-colored matrix. It is wonderfully centered on the large, natural plate of shale. This is an outstanding example of this unusual fossil leaf from Utah.
