Here is a great example of a classic US trilobite. This is Eldredgeops rana rana from the Middle Devonian of New York. This trilobite is wonderfully prone and exhibits great detail. The individual lenses of the compound eyes are present, and the many pustules on the glabella are quite evident. The thick-shelled exoskeleton is very easily seen. The black fossil contrasts nicely with the light grey matrix. The trilobite is well showcased on the large plate of shale that also contains a nice horn coral. This is a very fine example of a large Eldredgeops rana rana from New York State.
