Here is a very striking stromatolite specimen. This is large Copperia tubiformis from the Precambrian of Australia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. This stromatolite has been estimated to be 2.2 to 2.4 billion years old! This slab has been polished and coated on one side for optimal display. The unique coloration is totally natural and makes for a great conversation piece. This is a very distinct specimen of this striking stromatolite from ''Down Under''.
