This is an extremely uncommon fossil. It is an excellent specimen of Macaridian sp. from the Silurian of New York. This armor-plated worm is one of the rarest fossils to be found in the Rochester Shale. This inflated specimen exhibits wonderful detail - the individual plates are beautifully defined. The large worm has good color and contrast and is nicely presented on the squared plate of shale, sitting right next to a small coral! This is a great specimen of this very unusual fossil worm.
