Here is a very distinct DOUBLE specimen of Archimedes sp. from Missouri. This unusual, corkscrew-shaped bryozoan is only found the Mississippian of North America! These bryozoan colonies attached themselves to the ocean floor with the spiraling fronds in an upward position. The fossils are very 3-dimensional and exhibit fine detail. The natural color of the fossils contrasts wonderfully with the grey matrix plate. This is a very uncommon double example of this strange-looking bryozoan.
