Here is a fine ammonite specimen from a very interesting location. This is Prolylleceras sp. from the Cretaceous of Peru. The fossil has been removed from the surrounding matrix so that it can be viewed from all angles. This 3-dimensional cephalopod exhibits extremely strong ribbing and five rows of nodes on the shoulders and the keel. The detail of the ammonite is well displayed and easily seen. The natural black coloration is extremely unusual. And there is an impression of a second ammonite on the back side. This is a well preserved example of this unusual ammonite from Peru.
