Here is an exceptional plate of Archimedes sp. from the Mississippian of Illinois. This unusual cork-screw shaped bryozoan is unique to the Mississippian of North America. There are two large specimens of Archimedes on this plate. This is a natural occurrence - neither specimen has been added or composited! It is extremely unusual to find two large specimens in such close proximity to each other. These bryozoans are very 3-dimensional and have been prepared in high relief. The white fossils contrast nicely with the grey matrix. The Archimedes are nicely positioned on the squared rectangular plate of limestone. This is a very displayable plate of these unique bryozoans from Missouri.
