This is a fabulous fossil Ginkgo leaf. This is Ginkgo biloba (formerly G. adiantoides) from the Paleocene of North Dakota. This fossil leaf is has great natural form and preserves extremely fine detail. The distinct palmate venation of the Ginkgo leaf is wonderfully preserved and easily seen. This striking specimen has a long petiole still tightly attached to the leaf. The off-white color of the leaf contrasts beautifully with the orange-brown matrix. The impressive leaf is very well centered on the large plate of shale. This is a very collectible and displayable fossil Ginkgo leaf from North Dakota - a top quality example.
