This is an unusual multiple specimen of Cryptoblastus melo from the Mississippian of Missouri. There are FOUR large Cryptoblastus blastoids on the plate. This is not an uncommon blastoid, but a plate with so many is quite unusual. The melon-shaped blastoids are very inflated and exhibit fine detail. The plate structure is well defined and the thin ambulacra are easily seen. There is also a Platycrinites calyx on the plate (lower left). The off-white fossils contrast nicely with the brownish-orange matrix. The fossils are nicely positioned on the squared plate of limestone. This is a very displayable plate of Cryptoblastus melo from the famous Burlington Formation.
