This is a very large fossil plant. It is a fine leaf of Populus wilmattae, a Poplar, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. This heart-shaped leaf has a tight, branching base and a very long acuminate apex. The venation of the leaf is quite distinct and the LONG petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The fossil has excellent natural color and contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored plate of matrix. This is a very nice specimen of a Poplar leaf from the Eocene of Colorado.
