This is a distinct specimen of Diplomystus dentatus from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. This fish is colorful and exhibits good detail. The bone structure of the fish is beautifully displayed, and the fins and tail are easily seen. The eye socket is clearly defined, and the upturned mouth adds a certain charm. The orange-brown color of the fish contrasts wonderfully with the light-colored matrix. The fossil herring is well showcased on the colorfully banded plate of shale. This is a fine, affordable fossil fish from Wyoming.
