This is an excellent fossil fish. It is a large Knightia from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. The fossil fish is extremely well preserved and exhibits wonderful detail. The eye socket is easily seen, the fins are very defined, and the tail is quite evident. This fish displays the backbone beautifully, which contrasts nicely with the cream-colored rock. The fossil is well showcased on the rectangular matrix plate. This is a beautiful example of a fossil herring from the Eocene.
